The New Afrikan Scout Organization (NASO)

The New Afrikan Scouts (NAS) is a dynamic youth organization consisting of youth (male and female) of Afrikan descent, ages 6 – 17 years old.

Kweli Sobukwe Umoja and Paka-Kuma Weusi-Umoja originally formed the Scouts in 1979 under the direction of the House of Umoja and the Afrikan Peoples Party. The first troop (Zulu) was organized in Los Angles, California in 1979. In 1984, the New Afrikan Scouts became a program of the New Afrikan People’s Organization, and was renamed the New Afrikan Scout Organization (NASO).

The goal is to give identity, direction, and purpose to our youth, and to combat some of the obstacles placed in their paths. The Scouts are taught the interrelationship between the Black Nation, the Black Community, and themselves.  They are encouraged to use their resources toward our goal of community building, and self-determination.
